Jacksonville, Florida hotels, resorts, and lodging guide!
Jacksonville
has something for every visitor. Downtown Jacksonville has a great skyline,
parks, and restaurants on the St. John's River. Outdoor types will
enjoy hunting and fishing spots outside the city's limits. History
buffs can tour historical sites like Fort Caroline, the Timucuan Ecological
and Historic Preserve, and the Zephaniah Kingsley Plantation. Famed Spanish
conquistador, Juan Poncé de León, landed on eastern Florida's
shores in 1513, but left the area in search of the fountain of youth.
Nearly 50 years later, the French settled at Fort de la Caroline, but
Spanish forces later destroyed the post. Years later, a fire nearly devastated
the city again. In 1901, flames obliterated more than 2,000 buildings
downtown. After the fire, however, residents begin to rebuild. The city
entered a renaissance-like era, becoming the largest city (in terms of
land area) in the United States. Some of the largest companies in the
United States call Jacksonville home. It also has one of the most active
ports in the nation. Tourists will have plenty to do in Jacksonville.
They can watch the Jacksonville Jaguars play at Alltel Stadium, discover
how beer is made at the Budweiser Brewery, or see the animals at the Jacksonville
Zoo. The area not only offers activities, but a wide selection of accommodations
too. Jacksonville's hotels provide a number of lodging options to
visitors of all backgrounds.
Visiting The City of Jacksonville
Many
cities across the United States have professional sports teams. Jacksonville,
however, has one of the most successful sports franchises in the history
of the National Football League. The Jags (as theyre
called by fans) joined the NFL in 1995. Since the team's inception,
it has competed in the playoffs four times, and made it to the American
Football Conference (AFC) twice. The Jaguars won the AFC Central Division
championship twice. By the end of the team's first five seasons,
it had the NFL's best record. Lately, the Jaguars have had the highest
winning percentage in the NFL.
